Family Cafés
The Family Mental Health Cafés project:
Family Mental Health Cafés are community conversations being held with family members in cities across Ontario to learn more about the family experience.
The Cafés are part of a Family Mental Health research study at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto, led by Charmaine C. Williams, PhD.
Family Mental Health Cafés will explore relationships and caring in families that have an adult member diagnosed with a long-term mental illness. We want to hear from all family members – those who are diagnosed, parents, siblings, partners, friends – all the people who might have something to say about roles, relationships and caring when mental illness is part of your family life.
We are undertaking this community research project because we want families and family mental health to be put on the agenda for services and policymakers in Canada.
The sharing of families’ stories and experiences will contribute to the creation of educational materials for other families, students, support organizations, service providers and will be shared to inform more responsive services and policies for families.
We hope you choose to share your views in this important conversation!
