Family Cafés findings
Moving Forward: Sharing the findings
Family Mental Health Cafés are community conversations being held with family members in cities across Ontario to learn more about the family experience. Participants will be asked to sign consent forms, granting us permission to include them in our project. The findings of the Family Mental Health Cafés Research Study will be overseen and managed solely by the Factor Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto.
Once completed, project findings will be communicated and shared in several ways: posting text and video content on selected established websites that reach families, students and family support networks; publication in academic journals and presentations at conferences; and content presentation at educational events for the public, educators and professionals working with or supporting families.
Participants & Host Organizations
• A plain language summary of the research findings (community report) will be prepared for distribution to participants in either paper or electronic form, and distributed to community agencies.
• Participants will be encouraged to contact the researcher to receive a report and/or provide contact information if they would like to receive a report when the study is completed.
• In addition, the principal investigator is regularly invited to speak at agencies and present to service user groups, so there may be other opportunities to share the findings to study participants.
Academic
• Findings will be shared and presented at university-based academic programs, professional education forums, health and community services and online networks available through university and community networks.
Public Website and Online presence:
• Through our collaboration with the Family Guide to Mental Health Recovery website (www.familyguidetomentalhealth.com) we will post online materials for family support, education of health professionals and education of the public (from grade school age to adult) which may include Café video clips, interviews and text materials. Selected host and participating support organizations may also post content from the project.
• Content will also be shared on our feature pages on the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work website, University of Toronto
• On social media platforms (ex. Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Instagram etc.).
• Further web presence is possible through posting of research reports and articles on the Open Access University of Ontario T-Space and posting video content on the University of Toronto MyMedia space that can be shared in venues like Facebook and Twitter (#caregiving; #caregivingfamilies; @caregivercafé). Host community organizations may also share location-specific or project content.
